After graduating high school, Contractor was awarded a scholarship by the University of Toronto to pursue a dual major in psychology and sociology. Additionally, she earned an advanced degree in theatre. Contractor was offered the leading character in Pericles after a one-year stint in University. The audition was held for it during the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and won. The play received rave reviews and her performance during the 92 performances that this play, which was named the production of the year by Canadian reviewers in 2002. She was offered the opportunity to enroll in the Stratford Conservatory. The school is a private institution that accepts just eight men and four women to take a course in the art of classical theater. Contractor was ecstatically accepted. Contractor's place in the following production was secured, and she was chosen in the play as Hermia.
